We work with our client to gain insight into their brand, their competition and most importantly their consumers. We use this information to add greater focus to the project, defining possibilities and limitations before anything is designed.
We develop visual directions for the project, illustrating features and details. We explore component layout and possible fabrication processes through a wide variety of design concepts and solutions.
We define final component layout and product details, fine-tuning the look and feel and addressing manufacturing issues in greater detail. We make iterative prototypes to further validate the design directions.
We ensure that the design makes an exact transition from concept to reality by creating detailed design and engineering files. Depending on our client’s requirements we will oversee sourcing and managing of vendors to ensure the product launches on time and on budget.

Ross + Doell was established on September 11, 2001 by Alex Ross and Mike Doell. From the outset we have believed that design can help bridge the gap between companies and their consumers. To accomplish this we have stayed a small, versatile studio, one that responds quickly and effectively to our clients.
Both Alex and Mike studied industrial design at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Alex pursued post-graduate studies at Art Center(Europe) in La Tour de Peilz Switzerland before migrating to San Francisco. While there, he worked for the design consultancies Lunar Design and Taylor and Chu Industrial Design on projects for brands including HP, Abbott Laboratories and Mitsubishi. Mike worked for the Ontario Rehabilitation Technology Consortium designing seating products for children with special needs before moving to Hetherington Welch Design (HWD). At HWD, Mike developed products for clients such as Motorola, MDS Nordion and Scientific Atlanta. Additionally, Mike has designed OEM automotive products for brands such as Toyota, GM and Nissan.
